On this year’s World Refugee Day, we should take a moment to reflect on the fundamental principle of the convention adopted 75 years ago: the right to seek protection.

Seventy-five years ago, after World War II, the adoption of the Geneva Convention on Refugees made a promise: people forced to flee their home countries should have the right to seek protection and to find it. In June 2025, according to the UN Refugee Agency, 117 million people worldwide were displaced. That’s one in every 70 people worldwide. This promise should still apply to everyone.

The theme of World Refugee Day 2026 is “Until everyone is safe, we show up.”

Thanks to you, we can work together toward this future!
