Samos remains one of the most important accesspoints for refugees in Europe. Many people continue to arrive here after making the dangerous crossing across the Mediterranean. At present, these are mainly families from Afghanistan and people from Sudan and Yemen.
The CCAC Samos camp, which was previously severely overcrowded, was partially cleared during the summer of 2025. It now houses around 1,700 people and is therefore not fully occupied. Nevertheless, the people are living there in very poor conditions:
Only one area of the camp is currently inhabited and further closures and restrictions are planned. For example, people are still forced to sleep in the communal kitchen.
At the same time, the situation for aid workers is also becoming increasingly precarious. New laws lead to harsher penalties for people who work with registered NGOs. This deepens the existing climate of fear and insecurity not only for those seeking protection, but also for those who try to provide it.
Together with you and our partners Just Action, I Have Rights, Samos Volunteers, HRLP and Selfm.aid, we continue to stand up for these people and demand a humane life for all people in Europe!
